Lords Abercrombie (1647)

 

1st Lord Abercrombie, James Sandilands, b.?, a,1647, d.c.1666

 

James Sandilands of St Monans was from a cadet branch of the main Sandilands family (for whom see the lords Torphichen). He was created 1st Lord Abercrombie in respect of his mother Agnes Carnegie (b.?, d.1637), daughter of David Carnegie, 1st Earl of Southesk, but his extravagant living forced him to sell of his property to pay his debts, and he lived abroad from 1650 to 1658.

 

2nd Lord Abercrombie, James Sandilands, b.1645, a.c.1666, d.1681

 

Son of the 1st Lord and Jean Lichtoun, daughter of Patrick Lichtoun of Dunninald. He lived in poverty due to his father’s excesses and died unmarried, the title becoming extinct.

 

 

The courtesy title for the heir was Master of Abercrombie.
