1st Lord Livingston, James Livingston, b.b.1440, a.1458, d.1467

 

Son of Sir Alexander Livingston, well known as the guardian of the young James II, and rival to Sir William Crichton, Chancellor of Scotland. James Livingstone was made Captain of Stirling Castle and tutor to the King, and in 1453 was made Privy Counsellor, Master of the Household and Great Chamberlain.

Son of the 1st Lord. He died without issue.

 

3rd Lord Livingston, John Livingston, b.?, a.1497, d.1503

 

Nephew of the 2nd Lord, and son of Alexander Livingston.

 

4th Lord Livingston, William Livingston, b.?, a.1503, d.1518

 

Son of the 3rd Lord.

 

5th Lord Livingston, Alexander Livingston, b.c.1500, a.1518, d.1553

 

Son of the 4th Lord. He was guardian to Queen Mary in her childhood, and accompanied her to France when she married the Dauphin, and remained there until he died.

 

6th Lord Livingston, William Livingston, b.?, a.1550, d.1592

 

Son of the 5th Lord and Lady Agnes Douglas, daughter of James Douglas, 2nd Earl of Morton. He remained a supporter of Queen Mary, and fought for her at the Battle of Langside.

 

7th Lord Livingston, Alexander Livingston, b.?, a.1592, d.1621

 

Son of William Livingston, 6th Lord Livingston, and Agnes Fleming, daughter of Malcolm Fleming, 3rd Lord Fleming. He accompanied the Duke of Lennox to exile in France. He was created 1st Earl of Linlithgow in 1600.

2nd Earl of Linlithgow, Alexander Livingston, b.?, a.1621, d.1648

 

Son of the 1st Earl and Lady Helen Hay, daughter of Andrew Hay, 8th Earl of Erroll.

 

3rd Earl of Linlithgow, George Livingston, b.1616, a.1648, d.1690

 

Son of the 2nd Earl and Elizabeth Gordon (b.?, d.1616), daughter of George Gordon, 1st Marquess of Huntly.

 

4th Earl of Linlithgow, George Livingston, b.a.1653, a.1690, d.1692

 

Son of the 3rd Earl and Lady Elizabeth Maule (b.?, d.1659), daughter of Patrick Maule, 1st Earl of Panmure, who had previously been married to John Lyon, 2nd Earl of Kinghorne. He had previously obtained the title of 3rd Earl of Callendar from his uncle.

 

5th Earl of Linlithgow, James Livingston, b.?, a.1692, d.1723

 

Son of the 4th Earl and Lady Anne Graham (b.?, d.1704), daughter of James Graham, 2nd Marquess of Montrose. He joined in the Jacobite uprising of 1715 and was attainted. All of his titles became forfeit. His daughter Anne Livingston (b.?, d.1747) married William Boyd, 4th Earl of Kilmarnock.

 

 

George Livingston, younger brother to the 1st Earl of Linlithgow, was created a Baronet of Nova Scotia. The 9th Baronet, Alexander Livingston, put forth a case for reversal of the attainder of the earldoms of both Linlithgow and Callendar in 1784, but failed to convince the Attorney-General.
